Spread Some Happy

With so much going on in the world right now, it feels more than a little timely to have a whole day dedicated to reminding ourselves of the importance of staying positive…

So let’s focus on what we have in common, rather than what divides us, and make every smile count. By channelling the celestial powers of the equinox to our advantage, we can boost our own happiness levels too, making us even more able to spread the love.

What is an equinox?

Celebrated with ancient rituals the world over and throughout history, an equinox is a profound cosmic phenomenon, occurring when the sun crosses the celestial equator, making day and night equal lengths across the globe.  This happens twice a year, around 20 March and 23 September.

Harness the equinox today to boost happiness

Whether you live in the Southern or Northern hemisphere, the equinox marks an important opportunity to nourish your own happiness levels. And if we’re happy, we can’t help but be a catalyst for an extra dose of happiness in others. We love how Rudolph Steiner (a key visionary in biodynamics) describes equinoxes as ‘the mid-point of the long in-breath of winter, or the long out-breath of summer’.

Southern hemisphere (autumnal equinox) – the March equinox marks the onset of shorter days and cooler months ahead. Reflect on this and use this time to tune-in, do the things that nourish your body, mind and spirit, rest and replenish.

Northern hemisphere (spring equinox) – with longer days signalling the onset of spring, notice how the new light puts a spring in your step. Feel the bright energy it gives you and focus yourself on rejuvenation, spiritual rebirth and abundant thinking.

Get the most out of your equinox reflections by combining the Equilibrium you are working with or pomander sequence.

 Share the love

“All the flowers of all the tomorrows are in the seeds of today” Proverb

Happiness blooms, so think of yourself as the seed, focus on what connects you to everyone and if you can’t go out think of alternate ways to– share a smile, talk to them, ask them how they are, and listen with intention. Do a random act of kindness without need for thanks.

By helping others we systematically help ourselves too (evidence shows that when people become more altruistic they experience physiological changes in their brain that result in higher happiness levels, better health, and longevity) – win, win!

Here are a few ideas to spread some smiles:

  •        Give flowers
  •        Give time
  •        Offer to do someone’s shopping for them
  •        Call a friend and make them laugh
  •        Send a card to someone you’re out of touch with
  •        Talk to a colleague you think you have nothing in common with, make the effort to find the common ground
  •        Tell people what you love about them
  •        Thank the people you love for what they do for you
  •        Reach out to someone in need
  •        Let your smile stretch a little wider

Notice the ripple effect. Notice how it makes you feel.
