looking out into the distance

Failure is an inevitable part of life. But that doesn’t make it any easier to deal with. Yet, if we shift our thinking, and embrace failure instead of fearing it, it can become a powerful tool to greatness.

It’s a deep human desire to be perfect, to be the best at everything that we try, and to never make a mistake. That’s why when we have a setback, or a failure, it hits us so hard. Although it’s not easy, it’s important to take a step back, put things into perspective, and try and focus on the positive aspects.

“We learn from failure not from success”

These wise words couldn't be more true. Without mistakes and failure, we can never improve. We can never become the best version of ourselves that we all strive to become.

Whether it’s a work failure, a personal failure, a big mistake, or a small one, take the time to assess what happened. What can you take away from the experience? What would you do differently? These learnings are invaluable and will shape your future self.

“Failure is an event, not a person.”

We couldn't agree more with this. Failure doesn't define who you are. It is simply something that happened. If failure befalls you, remember that ‘I failed’ and ‘I am a failure’ are two very different things.

“Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.”

If we can shift our thinking to see failure as an opportunity it will open new doors, and show us new paths to take. And who knows what awaits in this new direction?

“What defines us is how well we rise after falling.”

Failure and mistakes build resilience. They build strength, they build perseverance in the face of adversity. A negative feeling cannot have a positive impact or outcome, so it’s important to accept the failure for its learnings and move forward with confidence.

“Failures are a part of life”

No matter how well prepared you are, and how carefully you tread, failures and setbacks will always happen. They are an unavoidable part of life. We train ourselves to be resilient, to shoulder the emotions they bring, and use them to our advantage. How do you deal with failures?
